Outdoor Feature: Glass Fire Pit
Fire pits are great not only in winters but also summers when the poolside parties just aren’t the same without a bonfire. We already talked about how to choose a fire pit but this specific type just stands out. A glass fire pit, is a pit that is filled with temepered glass pieces to enhance the look of the flame.

Fire Glass
Fire glass is tempered glass that is designed to withstand high temperatures in a fireplace or a fire pit. It is rounded and washed to remove sharp edges and make it sparkle. As opposed to regular glass, tempered fire glass does not melt, produce smoke, change color or pop and shoot when it burns. It is not indestructable though so it should be handled carefully.
Quality of fire glass is quite important for safe usage so make sure to invest in good quality fire glass only. Also there are different colors available on the market. Glass also comes in a reflective/mirror finish.
Fire Pit Conversion
To convert your fire pit into a glass fire pit you will need to make sure your fuel is appropriate for fire glass (natural gas or propane). Make sure that you have the right equipment for burning gas and that you read all the instructions on using both gas/propane and fire glass.
Lava Rocks & Other Filler
Lava rocks is another filler that is used to decorate a fire pit. These come in different shapes and sizes and are also used in gas fire pits. Lava rocks and fire glass can be used together to create a special effect, a contrast in textures.
Other fillers include fire balls/shapes that are made from real stone and colored in different muted natural colors.
