Grenelle Apartment House Downtown Paris
Two new houses, united by green courtyard, were built by the Périphériques Bureau in the heart of Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, surrounded by numerous parks and gardens. The site, which was allocated for the project, is situated in the calm, restrained district with a very well-constructed infrastructure. Facades of the buildings look majestically. One of them overlooks the boulevard de Grenelle, and the other – on the street Fremikur.

The Périphériques Bureau developed certain principles in the design of these residential buildings: energy efficiency, a combination of conventional and social housing, cozy green courtyards and spacious terraces. All this was evident in the new project.
Paris makes great efforts to achieve low power consumption. One of them is the creation of a strategic “Climate Plan”. Grenelle fully meets its requirements by consuming less than 50 kVt/hour/m2 per year.
The residential complex includes 35 apartments designed to provide cross-ventilation and natural light throughout the day due to a double exposure. Each apartment has a south-facing loggia: due to their forms, these balconies do not block the sun to each other. The first floor is reserved for commercial needs. The housing is also equipped with underground parking and a shared roof terrace.

Four facades have been designed in similar way, but each is provided with its own characteristics. They are shrouded by a network of horizontal plates. The façade, which is facing the Fremikur street, is finished by glass; the courtyard is finished by wood panels and anodized aluminum. From the side of the boulevard the building decorated with glazed tiles.
Such examples as Grenelle, make us think about the fact that sometimes the idea and execution, of course, triumph over architectural expressiveness. But such a policy of a delicate integration, undoubtedly, gives the result.
