SILO – Stadium International Lunar Olympics
Space exploration is one of the priority development directions in the world today. Mars One Program is already started and the first team to the Mars now undergoes preparation trainings. Soon comes the time when living on moon will be a common thing.
First Lunar Architecture Project
Two students Brian Harms and Keith Bradley from the California Polytechnic State University think forward. They designed a stadium that will be placed on moon. It has everything for the Olympic Games including a hotel, restaurants and a solar electric system. Playing field will be 0.5 kilometers in diameter and number of seats counts around 100 000.
Lunar Stadium aims to improve the existing sports and also invent some new ones. The gravity on moon is different from that on the Earth and it allows to jump higher but run slower. Authors: “Within the lunar colonies of the future, recreational activities will arise and evolve to take advantage of the moon’s micro-gravity. The sports we know today will be modified, and brand new sports will be invented. Lunar sports associations will be created, teams will be sponsored, games will be televised, and people from all over the globe will watch as the best of the best compete in an arena in which all the rules have changed. Welcome to the silo.”
This project breaks the rules and shows the feeling of the upcoming new times. “Futuristic” is no more futuristic, it is almost realistic. If futurism describes the far-far future, then we are already there. In a contemporary art as well as in architecture breakthrough happens not at the realization phase, but at the stage of conception. Futurism will never be like we knew it. Say “goodbye” to the old futurism and “hello” to the new one.
