15 Ways Of Using Pallets In Home Decor
There are many creative ways of recycling and repurposing pallets for home decor and outdoors. While pallets may certainly be made to look decorative they are highly functional when it comes to building furniture and other home accessories.
Using Pallets In Home Decor
Tables
Pallets make for great tabletops as well as small coffee tables. Add caster wheels to a pallet and voila the coffee table is ready. It can be completed with a glass tabletop or paint to suit the interior design but it’s quite easy to create.
Beds & Headboards
Several pallets connected together with hinges can make for affordable sofas and daybeds. They can also be used as headboards. Pallet bed can be enhanced with caster wheels although it’s optional in case you want a low bed.
Seating Area
A living room furniture set can be easily replaced with some pallets linked together and finished with matresses, slip covers and decorative throw pillows. Create your seating area for less with pallets and foam or old matress.
Shoe Rack
A pallet can be transformed into a shoes rack and you don’t even have to do much. Just sand the pallet that you are going to use as a shoe rack well and smooth and lacquer up to prevent shoe damage from splinters and rough wood surface. Use space between slats to store footwear.
Chaise Longue
Pallets can even be used to build chaise longues. For a seat two pallets are stacked while the back is made from one sided pallet.
Wine Rack
Split into several pieces a pallet can become a small wall-mounted wine rack adding character and function to the kitchen design and wine storage.
Dish Rack
The same way the pallet can be used to store dishes and tableware. It can also be hung from the rope and enhanced with hooks to hang pots and pans in the kitchen.
Shelving
The pallets can be used for their frames to create a shelving for storing books or displaying various decorations and objects.
Swing
A swing or hanging bed can also be made out of pallets. Make holes at the four corners of the pallet for rope or cable and find a place to hang it.
Mini Garden
Use a pallet to create a vertical mini garden or a wall-mounted planter holder. Plant any flowers or plants you want and let them grow for a while in natural horizontal position before erecting the pallet to achieve a vertical garden.
Bench
Two or more pallets can make for a nice outdoor bench. They can be connected similarly as when building the bed frame or taken apart and built out of separate slats. Depending on the bench shape.
Tool Shed
A pallet can be transformed into tool shed gathering all of the garden instruments in one place and keeping them in order.
Garden Planter
Use a pallet to build a flower bed frame or simply divide the plants into zones. A pallet can also be mounted to the wall and equipped with planter holding fixtures.
Wall Divider
Pallets can be a great affordable material for building a wall divider in the room providing with privacy but also airiness that the slats provide.
Garden Path
Creating a garden path is a simple and cool way of recycling old pallets. It can be an alternative pathway or a natural main path to the garden which will allow small plants and herbs easily grow around and underneath them.

Hey, Kate, thanks for you comment. Well, companies that use pallets for shipping like small retail outlets can give them away instead of selling them. But I have to warn you. Since pallets can be used to transport various goods that contain chemicals they can become contaminated with those. Besides water, mold, and insects can make palettes unlikely material for home. Some of them can be made with use of formaldehyde so be sure to know where the palettes are coming from and what they were used for before using them for home projects.
