Since 1988, this estate was owned by the Roman lawyer Gianni Nunziante, who is going to sell it for €50 million. The lawyer insists that the backdrop for the famous portrait was the valley, which is right around his villa.
Presumably, the portrait of Lisa Gherardini was ordered by her husband, a Florentine silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo, probably to mark the birth of a son and buying a home. The picture was drawn in the years 1503-1505.
The local press reported that a mysterious diamond magnate from South Africa and a group of Chinese investors expressed interest in purchase of this property, and allegedly some of them have already signed a contract for to buy it.
While the “home of Mona Lisa” has not been sold yet, any fan of da Vinci and the Tuscan wine can easily rent a hotel room in the villa without special financial expenses.

According to Gianni Nunziante, added value to his villa gives the fact that several costume films were shot on its territory, including Shakespeare’s play “Much Ado About Nothing”, staged by an eminent British film director Kenneth Branagh.
