Horse Stable Transformed Into Home
This house in Breukelen was remodeled and transformed by Zecc Architecten in collaboration with BYTR Architecten. In 1760 it was a horse stable with a coach house now it’s a modern home with a traditional exterior and old elements of stable that adds to the home decor.
Thanks to the latest trend to reuse and repurpose old buildings from stables to warehouses to factories we get to see more and more design solutions and remodeling ideas. The 1760 stable features a clean simple interior with white walls and wooden beams. The lower level is a dining area with the airy kitchen that features a framed glazed entry.
The double stairs made of wood lead to the minimalistic sitting area with a classic magenta couch, a glossy white lacquered storage-friendly coffee table and a brown leather armchair. The modern fireplace gives the place some homey warmth. The ceiling is high but finished with wooden beams and also columns.
The living area on the ground floor features original elements from the stable that was previously filled with hay stacks, while the adjacent kitchen area used to be a coach house. The living area includes the columns that were used to tie the horses and the wells for the water. The sitting area is located in the right corner of the room decorated with plant pots.
The stable’s glazed floor to almost ceiling double doors provide the house with plenty of natural light and the view of trees that surround the building. The building also features a number windows. In the sitting area on the second floor there are a couple of skylights that make the place look more airy.
