Shared Bedroom Ideas for Kids

Share |

Whether you need more space or are challenged by space, letting your kids share a room can be the perfect option. We look at some ideas to make the best use of space and some kid’s beds to inspire.

Trend In Architecture: Parasitic Buildings

Parents often complain that children simply have too many toys these days, it is a kind of ‘toy inflation’ if you like as kids amass more and more; the net result is an ever increasing encroachment on space.

Naturally parents look for ways to create more space for storage and clear space for the children to play and be creative in. Sometimes the only real way to do that is for the children to share a room and this can be a great way of encouraging siblings to play more together. While letting kids share is a good solution it is relatively short-term as once they get into their teens, there is likely to be more demand to have their own bedroom.

Even with a small budget there are ways for parents to increase space and encourage the children to apply their own personality to their room. Carpetright kid’s beds are ideal because there are affordable beds that can also fit easily into any interior style and décor. Making the kid’s room fun and imaginative through decorating it in bright colours and patterns, the parents will encourage play and learning in a stimulating environment.

Bunk beds are perfect for sharing and for small rooms – fitting two beds into a small area. Also, with the second bed being the top bunk and out of the way, the little ones have plenty of space to run around and wreak havoc, with the given extra floor area. If the kid’s do have their own rooms, a hidden advantage of each of them having bunk beds, is that it is easy to accommodate friends if they want to come for a sleep over.

Children Sharing Bedrooms

It is not a requirement that children like the same colours or have identical interests; it is more likely in fact for them to have very different likes or dislikes. For example, in a girls shared bedroom, one might want pink while her sibling might prefer purple. With the right girl’s beds, a parent can create an authentic room that presents the individuality of each child, yet have a general theme that flows throughout.  Use imaginative wall stickers to decorate and add individuality for each child.

Similarly with bedroom ideas for a boy, while both may not like the colour blue, be sure to adapt this within the interior.

Unisex Bedroom Ideas

It is ultimately important that when a girl and boy share a bedroom each child has enough personal space without getting on each other’s nerves.

With beds for juniors, parents can create a sense of privacy to each by dividing the area around each single bed with a curtain or a storage unit. By using such a divider, the boy and girl can grow up without being too irritated by their sibling sharing the other side of the room. Another idea is putting a square table in the corner and then fitting two beds on the adjacent walls. This idea might be great for twins of different genders who have a strong bond.  Naturally – with siblings of different genders there may well be a greater need to give them their own rooms in the end as they enter their teen years.

The main thing to remember is that when creating a unisex room, one must get the best of both worlds and therefore choose a style for the bedroom that suits them both. A tip for success from interior designers on designing shared bedrooms is to keep it consistent.  Good luck and have fun.
