How to Thoroughly Clean Your Home

Share |

There are two ways to revitalise your home: you can redecorate or do a comprehensive clean. Redecorating is fun but it also a major undertaking that will cost money and take up a lot of your time. Cleaning is a nice solution as it is free and achievable with a few hours of solid work. These should be your first major steps if you go down the cleaning route.

Clear Out the Clutter

If you want to change the appearance of your home with a clean you will need to get rid of a whole lot of clutter. This means tidying loose objects but also culling larger things: you may have a chair lying around that is unused and just eating up space, or a bookshelf that is wholly unused. Get rid of these items and make your house feel much less cluttered.

Clean Those Carpets

Carpets gather a lot of dust and dirt over time. Vacuuming can only do so much and eventually you’ll need to bust out something like a Vax steam cleaner to give your floors a thorough refresh. Steam cleaning is great in this respect, especially if you don’t want to fork out for a professional carpet cleaner.

Give Away Unwanted Clothes

People’s rooms are always cluttered with stray clothes – it’s their responsibility to clean up after themselves but it doesn’t help when you have wardrobes bursting with old clothes that are never used. To solve this simply crack out the garbage bags and fill them up with things you don’t need – then cart them to the charity shop where they can find new homes.

Clean in the Forgotten Places

You probably have a weekly cleaning regimen where you clean all the high profile places in your house: the toilet, kitchen surfaces and the like. When you do your big clean be sure to focus on those forgotten places you don’t normally get to. Clean out your microwave, polish your mirrors and go sleuthing for hidden grime that might have eluded you previously.

These steps should have you well on your way to a cleaner, airier home. This is no substitute for a complete home refurbishment yet it’s a good thing to do when you don’t have the time or money to shake things up completely. So crack out the steam cleaner and clean your way to a much more pleasant home – you and your family will certainly not regret the time spent.
