The owners of the mansion in Los Angeles used to live in a very traditional house, decorated with tapestry and antiques. Their new home is a building in Georgian style with the total area of 1200 m ²that was built in 1939 and also looks classic, but not on the inside.

There are bright fancy marble floors, carpets in op-art style, vintage furniture of weird shapes and colors, and abstract contemporary art. The dining chairs are upholstered in cowhide leather with a metal spark. In the living room there are wall panels with pyramidal relief and a sofa upholstered with crimson tiger print.

The interior was designed by Kelly Wearstler, a “queen” of Californian decorators who needs no introduction. Her work is featured in popular interior magazines. The current clients came to her, studying the real estate market: Kelly’s own house was up for sale. They did not buy it. But when they found a suitable accommodation, they decided to call her.

She is fearless, not afraid of bright colors and solutions. She always offers something fresh and unexpected,” says the hostess.

The house stands on the edge of a golf course in the prestigious Bel-Air Country Club, on a plot of almost a hectare. It is two minutes away from Sunset Boulevard. Besides the house was once owned by the Hollywood star, Richard Gere.

However, there was nothing attractive in the interior. There have been difficulties vertically and horizontally. There were too many rooms, low ceilings.

For the rebirth process Kelly engaged the architect Brian Tichenor from Tichenor & Thorp Architects, whom she considers a great expert in historic buildings. Together they totally renovated the house: demolished some walls, raised ceilings, moved fireplaces, expanded backside by having completed the kitchen and the pool pavilion. The basement became a music room for children.

With all incredible brightness and even shock value, Kelly’s interiors are always thoroughly thought through and made with fanatic quality.
