How to Expand Space in Small Room with Wallpaper
It is always hard to decor a small room. Wallpaper can help you to expand a size of the room. There are a several tricks on how you can do it.
Tricks on How To expand Space in the Room with Wallpaper
Color and Texture
Dark shades can steal to 40% of space. But white walls are also not the best option. It is better to choose cream, light beige, light yellow, sand, light pink, peach, gray, blue-gray, gray- green, light green, light blue, and bluish-green colors. At the same time take into account the room’s lighting. If there is a small dark room, you need to choose warm colors. If there is enough light choose cold colors.
Textured wallpaper can expand any space. It creates drops of volume and shadows play that gives the impression of a larger space. Wallpaper with glitter can also visually expand the room.
You can use patterned wallpaper in a small room. If you want to install same patterned wallpaper on all walls, it is better to choose a small pattern. But if you have high ceilings, it is better to opt for a horizontal pattern. If the walls will have a lot of pictures, it is better to choose monochrome wallpaper.
Combine pale yellow and cream colors with light purple, grayish-pink, pale green, light gray, green and muted red. Pale pink color goes great with a salad green, light purple and blue. Light green if well combined with dark-green, lilac and pink. Blue-gray color combines with gray and cherry. Light gray goes well with purple, magenta or light magenta.

Different Walls Trick
The idea of this trick is to install monophonic or simple patterned wallpaper on three walls, and the bright one or with a big pattern on the forth wall. This feature wall should be chosen depending on what you want to highlight. Are you going to allocate your big screen TV, headboard, interesting shelves, or any functional area along that wall? Maybe a working area or chilling out space?
Different Walls Trick
Install wallpaper diagonally. You will see how it will expand space in the room just like that.
Use the wallpaper of same color but different saturation in one room. It coould be a monochrome or patterned wallpaper. Install dark wallpaper on the lower part of the walls and lighter ones on the upper part. A border between these two strips of wallpaper should be as thin as possible. A thick border will visually reduce the height of the room.
If the room is really small (about 8-10 sq m) use two types of wallpaper. If the room is larger you can use three. They must be similar in color and pattern, or at least match. Install them as usual, but with alternate intervals. For example, install two rolls of one type and then one roll of another type, then again two rolls of the first type and so on.
If you like wallpaper with very large bright 3D elements (like palace style wallpaper), but this kind of wallpaper is “too much” for your room, then take a roll, cut out some of these elements and install them to the light-colored wallpaper. They should look like décor elements on a ceramic tile.
Boring light wallpaper without a pattern in a small room can be reanimated with a bright decoretto, even of large size. For example, you can hang several huge chrysanthemums on the wall vertically or horizontally. It will not reduce the visual space of the room.
