Although wood is the material not very suitable for carpet making, designer Elisa Stroyzk managed to use it to create warm and cozy carpets. Using laser she cuts geometric pieces out of wood that are then attached to a textile backing. The project “Wooden textiles” is redefining the function of wood as a material. Geometric wooden pieces form a very flexible surface that can take on different three-dimensional shapes. Such material is neither soft nor hard. Therefore, the carpets made of it are a cross between parquet and carpet, furniture and textiles.

Richard Hutton’s carpet design idea was driven by the desire to build a bridge between the old and the modern, between East and West. The principle of playing with a traditional carpet is to add a modern twist. Traditional paintings on the carpets are smoothly transferring into the straight lines of the same colors. This technique creates the impression that the carpets are coming apart. Each rug is made of wool by hand.
