Water Discus Hotel Project For Dubai
Water Discus is a another underwater hotel project designed for Dubai, which is known for extravagant architecture. Though it would not be the first underwater hotel in the world Discus is claiming the world’s largest underwater hotel title. The Discus was designed by Deep Ocean Technology (in partnership with BIG InvestConsult AG) in the shape of two parallel discs one of which will be submerged into the water while the other will elevate above the sea enhanced with a few smaller discs, one of which is apparently a helicopter pad. The discs are connected with five columns and staris/lifts.
The lower disc will include 21 hotel rooms, a bar and an underwater diving centre. The latter will have an access through the airlock and there will also be a decompression chamber as the hotel will offer piloting (underwater vehincle) classes for guests.
Thanks to the modular design the structure can also be move from one location to another. But as grand as the hotel project is it’s not merely the tourist attraction, the designers want to make the hotel a research center for underwater life. President of BIG InvestConsult AG, Bogdan Gutkowski said that:
We would like to create here in the UAE the International Environmental Program and Center of the Underwater World Protection — with Water Discus Hotel as a laboratory tool for ocean and sea environment protection and research.
The architects also considered the privacy and safety for their guests as they intend to make walls soundproof and provide it with curtains while the additional smaller discs can act as a buoyant life raft in case of flooding. The rooms will also have a special lighting system allowing guests to watch the life under the water and also take micro photos from their rooms of tiny creatures with the help of mini underwater vehicles.
