Glass Biospheres For Amazon Headquarters

Amazon headquaters that are to be built in Seattle had a change in the project proposal by NBBJ. The firm offers to add three glass biospheres to the campus to include work space as well as mature trees. Located in the heart of the campus the three glass and steel domes are to house offices, meeting rooms, dining areas, and green zones. Surrounded by a playing field and dog park the spheres won’t be accessible to the public but are meant to add to the urban experience.

The central sphere is to be 130 feet in diameter while the smallest – about 80. They will locate in the heart of the Amazon campus that totals 3.3 million square feet of office space. The whole project also includes three 37-storey towers, smaller buildings, and various green zones.

NBBJ is planning to realize the project to meet LEED Gold certification. The spheres are to house plants from high-elevation climates to ensure their life at the office.

The spheres will be located on Sixth and Seventh avenues on the Block 19 as Amazon calls the green area. To be built in 2016 the structure has already been approved at a public hearing in Seattle regardless of receiving mixed reviews.

The relaxed office spaces are getting more and more popular. Google is a champion of cool unconventional offices though this project definitely takes the office space to a whole new level. The greenery and transparency of the structure are to create an indoor/outdoor feel that merges the work space with the atmosphere of the park.

Exiting the building the workers will still feel that atmosphere as there is a park surrounding the spheres. What do you say about this project?
